My love for baking and art began at a young age, but it was not until after college that I realized my passion could be a career as well. I remember weekly updates from my maternal Grandma about all the recipes she made for her church friends from ambrosia cake to orange curd tarts. My paternal grandma would hand me a pencil and paper as soon as I walked into the door on my weekend visits and she would spend hours teaching me different sketching techniques. I owe where I am now to these 2 talented, beautiful women.

I went to Indiana University for my undergrad earning a degree in Biology with a pre-med curriculum. My path at the time was to be a doctor, but little did I know my science background and rigorous curriculum helped mold me to be a determined pastry chef.

I earned my Certificate in the Patisserie Arts at Le Cordon Bleu in Austin, TX. My internship and first job as a pastry chef was with Paloma Efron at Coco Paloma Desserts. Paloma taught me all there was to know about making a wedding cake from the basics of baking the perfect cake to the more elaborate decorating techniques.

Now, I’m so happy to be back in my home town. With the help of Anna, I can continue my passion of making products from the best ingredients, and serving Birmingham with beautiful baked goods.

My love for art has always been a part of me. I can remember sitting at the kitchen table with my dad watching him sketch and thinking about what the finished product would be or how he could change the entire image with just a few strokes. Both my mother and father did a great job encouraging me in my creativity and supporting my desire to create.

As I grew older, I discovered a new love, Mathematics:precise, exact, and perfect. I love that you can use mathematics in just about every area of life. In the fall of 2007, I attended Troy University in pursuit of a career in mathematics which eventually changed to Art History. In 2013, I started my cake career at Gia’s cakes where my loves had bloomed into my passions.

Every day presented itself with a new opportunity to learn as I realized that cake design gives me the freedom to exercise my creative abilities. While I was new to this field, Lexi took me under her wing and taught me so much more than I thought possible in such a short time. I am thrilled to continue this creative journey with her at The Cakerie!
